Expertised Eye Care

  • Individuals with cataracts or refractive problems may undergo lens replacement surgery to restore clear vision.

  • Ideal for people with serious vision problems who are not candidates for laser vision correction treatments like LASIK or PRK, lens replacement surgery is seen to be an appropriate and secure treatment option.

Understanding the procedure

  1. Incision: A small incision (about 2-3 mm) is made at the edge of the cornea using a microsurgical blade

  2. Capsulorhexis: A circular opening is created in the front portion of the lens capsule using a fine needle or forceps. This step is crucial for accessing the natural lens and for stable placement of the IOL.

  3. Lens Removal: The natural lens is broken up into small fragments using ultrasonic vibrations (phacoemulsification) or a femtosecond laser. The fragmented lens pieces are then suctioned out of the eye, leaving the empty lens capsule intact.

  4. Insertion of the Intraocular Lens (IOL): The selected IOL is folded and inserted through the small incision into the lens capsule using an injector. The IOL unfolds once inside and is positioned correctly within the capsule.

  5. Closing the Incision: The small incisions are usually self-sealing and may not require sutures. In some cases, tiny stitches may be used if necessary.

What is Lens Surgery?

Lens replacement surgery, also known as refractive lens exchange (RLE) or clear lens extraction (CLE), corrects refractive errors. It involves removing the natural, non-cataractous lens and replacing it with a synthetic intraocular lens (IOL). This method treats various vision problems such as astigmatism, myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, and cataracts.

Choosing the right clinic for lens surgery is crucial and there are several reasons why Eagle Eye Care can be an ideal choice, considering our expertise and experience, advanced technology, personalised care, comprehensive services, safety and accreditation, etc.

Procedures in Lens Surgery

The two procedures most commonly included in the term "lens replacement surgery" are cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange (RLE).

RLE will be a better option for many people over 40 who haven't had LASIK laser vision correction because of these added benefits,

  • minimal risk of developing cataracts;

  • stability of eyesight over the long run.

  • Lens technology that provide sharp vision at all distances.

Who needs Lens Surgery?

This surgery can address various vision problems and is typically recommended for specific groups of patients. Here are the primary candidates for lens replacement surgery:

  1. Patients with High Refractive Errors

  2. Patients with Presbyopia

  3. Patients Seeking Independence from Glasses and Contact Lenses

  4. Patients with Cataracts

  5. Patients with Lens Abnormalities
